Tonight, the 2017 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show will officially make its television debut in the US. Filmed last week in Shanghai, China, some of the fashion industry’s biggest models are going to be making a huge statement. But while we will all be checking out the hot new Victoria’s Secret designs – and the models’ incredible physiques – it is also worth appreciating the incredible shoe designs that have been created by Brian Atwood.
This is the third year that Atwood has been designing for the show, and he shed a little insight on what exactly goes on behind the scenes.
“The process starts with being presented with the themes or stories from Victoria’s Secret, then we basically design into those themes thinking about how to create ‘WOW’ shoes, through design and techniques,” the accessories designer told V magazine. “We always want the shoes to stand out and that works best when we play with color, techniques and drama.”
There is definitely a ton of color and texture featured in this year’s runway designs. So where exactly did inspiration for the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show shoes, boots, and strappy heels come from?
“I drew inspiration from everywhere, from Roman gladiator sandals to Tibetan costumes and African tribes. There was endless inspiration for this show, so many amazing themes,” Brian Atwood shared. “A show staple is the over-the-knee boot. I mean these girls have the best bodies in the business and have legs for days! The VS show is the perfect fashion show to show off fabulous footwear. The OTK boot also elongates their legs, not that they need it.”
This year’s runway show will include appearances by models Adriana Lima, Alessandra Ambrosio, Bella Hadid, Candice Swanepoel, Lily Aldridge, Elsa Hosk, Jasmine Tookes, Josephine Skriver, Karlie Kloss, Lais Ribeiro, Martha Hunt, Romee Strijd, Sara Sampaio, Stella Maxwell and Taylor Hill, plus many newcomers to the VS family. You can watch the runway show tonight, November 28, at 10 PM on CBS.
