One of the most spectacular and dramatic showcases during this September Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Istanbul series was undoubtedly the Spring/Summer 2019 Urun collection, presented at KüçükÇiftlik Park. The fashion label turned its runway into a theatrical production that tackled the ideas of unity, love, and self-acceptance through avant-garde garments inspired by the human body.
“Transforming human anatomy into fabric with an architectural perspective, Urun presented the collection of the past, future and the present,” the brand explained in a press release. “Parts dominated The ‘PLENUM’ collection telling of a journey that starts from bone and muscle and bodies itself into completion. Urun’s prominent dresses were completed with unconventional accessories in the SS’19 Runway.”
This specific line was filled with oversized headpieces, molded forms, and more pieces that exaggerated the models’ body architecture. As the pieces walked the fiery, candle-lit, circular runway, they felt illuminated from within. And the inspiration behind the pieces was just as complicated, yet natural and organic.
“Unity and completion can be seen in every part of SS’19 PLENUM collection,” Urun designer Ece Kavran said in a statement. “When designing, I first approached the body by taking it as layers and applied it in my designs by going from the bones, muscles, organs to the complete human body. The signature of URUN brand is in its molds and seams. All models were designed in a journey from molds to models and back from models to molds. ‘PLENUM’ collection is a journey of completion by rarefaction. All the models are dominated by the rarefaction to completion cycle.”
How poetic is that?
