Stella McCartney may have only just launched menswear about a year ago, but her label has been making big moves in the fashion industry ever since. The designer has unveiled the Stella McCartney Spring 2018 Men’s collection lookbook, and you’ll be thoroughly impressed by the “lightness and unexpected colors.”
“One of the reasons we wanted to launch the menswear is because I had so many people saying, ‘It’s amazing what you’re doing with the womenswear, thank you so much for being mindful and having this approach to business in a responsible way, but why can’t men have that too?’” Stella McCartney shared. “I think more and more it’s coming into the conversation of so many other industries that at some stage fashion really does have to catch-up to that.”
An example of how Stella McCartney shapes industry-rattling trends is her commitment to using more renewable, non-toxic, and ethical materials in a high-fashion space.
“We can really move to a place where leather isn’t equated to luxury and I think that there’s no need anymore. You can’t even tell the difference, it’s ridiculous”, she told GQ. “I think that luxury and fashion is all in your mind, how you perceive things, it’s how you approach it on a personal level.”
“It’s truly groundbreaking design, tech, innovation all together—and that’s what I think is luxury now,” the designer added.
In addition to a leather-free men’s collection, the label is also experimenting with alternative suedes and sustainably lab-grown viscose pulp to cut down on deforestation. This spring, Stella McCartney is also launching a completely glueless sneaker that the designer takes great pride in.
“They took a really long time to perfect. Ultimately we spent a long time not only getting the fit right, but the technological side of the make that really came into play,” she shared. “The idea of not using glue in a shoe is pretty major.”
