Our fashionista lives were forever changed when Instagram added direct shopping features to businesses’ feeds. No longer were we relying on the “tap for creds” method and hunting down our favorite pieces that we saw across social media photos. Well now, the popular photo app is going even further with revolutionizing our shopping habits, by adding a special feature that will allow users to shop Instagram Stories directly.
“Instagram isn’t just a place of inspiration, it’s also a place of action, and we know that inspiration can come from anywhere,” the brand announced on its news blog. “On Instagram Stories, when you see a sticker with a shopping bag icon tap on it to see more details about that product. From Adidas and Aritzia to Louis Vuitton, people have been able to shop from their favorite brands around the world, and now you can shop these businesses in Instagram Stories.”
How does it work? For now, only select brands have the link-adding feature available in their business accounts – but everyone with an Insta can use the shopping feature to seek out their latest outfit obsessions. These shops will have access to special e-commerce stickers that allow them to tag individual products – and when you click on them, you get directed to their online shopping links. It doesn’t get any easier than that!
“In a recent survey, Instagrammers said they often watch stories to stay in the-know with brands they’re interested in, get an insider view of products they like, and find out about new products that are relevant to them,” the brand added.
The shop Instagram Stories feature is expected to more widely launch in July 2018 – so keep an eye out for which of your favorite shopping destinations may already be beta testing this interactive feature.— Kristine Hope Kowalski
