The fashion industry was recently shaken up when Burberry Chief Creative Officer Christopher Bailey announced that he was stepping down from his position after 17 years with the company. Soon, it was revealed that Riccardo Tisci, formerly of Givenchy, would be succeeding the designer and putting his own twist on the British heritage label. While we have loved Tisci’s work for many years, our minds were admittedly working overtime trying to picture exactly what Riccardo Tisci Burberry designs would look like blended with the Italian designer’s own distinct style sensibilities.
Well now, we have a better idea of what’s ahead under the brand’s new direction, as the label has revealed an early preview of the Spring/Summer 2019 pre collection – which is Tisci’s first for Burberry. Titled “B Classic,” this line boldly announces that the designer will be staying true to the classics while adding his modern touch.
“I wanted to celebrate the beauty, heritage and legacy that I discovered when I first arrived at Burberry,” Tisci shared across his social media. “‘B Classic’ is an edit that I’ve curated to honor the icons of the House – pieces like the trench coat, the quilted jacket, the car coat, the kilt – which sits at the heart of the SS19 pre collection designed by the fantastic Burberry design team.”
Throughout the mini-lookbook, you will spot plenty of Burberry’s iconic plaid, done over in chic ponchos and must-have trench coats. Quilted coats, clever plaid footwear and accessories, and the eye-catching belt bag have all been given a new spring twist for this upcoming launch.
This full collection will be formally presented in September, and we can’t wait to see how Tisci blends inspirations for his debut Burberry collection. Especially since he is known as such a boundary-pushing artist.
