RaisaVanessa presented its stunning Spring/Summer 2020 luxury ready-to-wear collection during this September season of New York Fashion Week: The Shows. The Istanbul-based fashion and couture brand, created by sisters Raisa and Vanessa Sason, brought plenty of color, whimsy, and architectural silhouettes to The Gallery I at Varick Street’s Spring Studios in New York City.
“The Spring Summer ’20 collection follows the sensual rhythms of the Brazilian lambada, the ‘forbidden dance’ of the late 1980s,” the brand explained in a release. “RaisaVanessa uses bold and bright fabrics draped tightly to the body with a focus on the suggestive. Their artful eye captures the nature of the lambada and celebrates its Latin roots. Signature details such as strong shoulders, structural flounces, beaded fabrics, and pleats encourage the movement of the hips.”
This collection combines breathtaking garden-inspired prints and a soft color palette with strikingly angular evening wear designs in sparkling metallics.
If you notice a distinct costume-inspired design reference throughout this collection, you’re spot-on to the brand’s earliest origins. The RaisaVanessa designers both studied costume design for performance at London College of Fashion, and maximalist theatrical elements pop up in all of their runway collections.
