Can the most glamorous and opulent evening gowns also be… comfortable? Anyone who has ever sported a full-length sequined gown for a formal affair may be hesitant to call their looks “cozy,” but somehow designer Prabal Gurung is finding a way to inject some street style flair into his red carpet-ready creations. The newly-revealed Prabal Gurung Pre-Fall 2019 collection lookbook takes the jaw-dropping dresses and more to the streets of New York City – where they manage to feel lived-in and at home.
In addition to the designer’s signature evening dresses, this well-rounded collection also includes several more casual pieces that are perfect for the designer’s new Bleecker Street flagship location.
Prabal Gurung is known for his feminist fashion statements, and this season is no exception: the entire range is a celebration of the over 100 women just recently elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in November – and features visual nods to political activist Gloria Steinem‘s style in the 1970s. Flared jeans, flowing printed maxi dresses, and dramatic bell sleeves round out the retro-inspired line, while the modern silhouettes point to a new future ahead.
