Designer Virgil Abloh of the mega-popular streetwear brand Off-White is officially bringing his accessories to a whole new audience. The label has partnered up with Sunglass Hut to create a capsule collection aimed at bringing rising retro-inspired fashion trends to the masses.
“Sunglass Hut and Luxottica offer Off-White exposure to a wide audience that might not know about the brand,” Virgil Abloh shared about the partnership. “I’ve always thought of sunglasses as an important accessory in a fashion context. It’s a small object that can give you the nuances of a brand’s opinion on design. For me I was looking to incorporate classic shapes from the past with a youthful modern elegance. All lenses are flat, which gives each style the same edge.”
All of the frames in the Off-White Sunglass Hut collection are unisex designs, but they are born from a luxury womenswear straight-from-the-runway inspiration.
“The shapes are all unisex, but I wanted to play with the ladylike emotion of the runway show muse. It gave the concept for the eyewear a firm foundation, allowing the looks to be elevated by their different sunglasses pairing,” Abloh explained to WWD.
The “For Your Eyes Only” collection is described as “visionary proportions merging street sensibilities and new
fashion contexts, plus a clear inspiration from the ’80s,” with the three trendy acetate glasses designs being comprised of “a mix of retro curves, clean and angular lines and surfaces curving inward.” You’ll find animal print frames, sleek black lacquered stems, and more out of this line.
You will be able to shop the entire Off-White Sunglass Hut capsule starting on March 20, exclusively on SunglassHut.com. Each pair is set to retail for $179, which is an incredible price point for this exciting designer collab.— Kristine Hope Kowalski
