Miu Miu Debuts the Raceway-Themed Cruise 2018 Collection

The Miu Miu Cruise 2018 collection has just been unveiled, and you are about to fall in love with the sporty inspiration behind the latest designs. The French label tapped celebrity models like Elle Fanning, Joan Smalls, Doutzen Kroes, Slick Woods, and more popular fashionistas to star in a campaign called “All I wanted was a car.”

The automotive inspiration is evident in all of the campaign’s photo shoot imagery and promotional video, shot by British photographer Alasdair McLellan.

“Staged on the racetrack at France’s Autodrome de Linas-Montlhéry, Miu Miu’s Croisiere 2018 collection sparkles with a group of incandescent girls who want nothing more than a day of fun—namely, a ride in a fast car,” according to the brand’s page. “This year, Miu Miu Club was held in the Parisian seat of the Automobile Club de France, connecting to one of the collection’s inspirations: car culture. A fresh take on typically masculine motifs, such as insignias and racing stripes, creates a playful idea of a classic car club. Welcome to the Miu Miu Club for car enthusiast girls.”

The designs in the Miu Miu Cruise 2018 collection are sporty-meets-elegant. Each piece is inspired by the social event of heading to the racetrack to watch high-speed competitions. Except these girls aren’t just idle spectators: they’re the ones hopping in the car, and rolling their sleeves to do their pit stop duties.

“The girls sport jumpsuits and jackets from the Croisiere 2018 collection, designed with the elan of racing in mind,” Miu Miu shared about this campaign. “The practicality of a driver’s uniform, designed for performance, is elaborated with sponsor’s patches and checked flags, and embellished with the overall sensuality of automotive detailing and the gleaming sheen of automotive lacquer. Under a beaming sun, light glints across rhinestone-studded dresses, a new line of matelassé bags, racing goggle-inspired sunglasses, and a jewelry collection including covetable ‘m’ earrings, as the vehicles soar around them – a veritable fleet of innovative, luscious design.”

Black and white checkered detailing is featured on the collars and patches of several pieces in the range. This clever addition is a true homage to the speedway.

But of course, the designs are meant to be worn off the racetrack, which is why we particularly love the collection’s bedazzled dresses, artistic heels, and effortlessly cool jackets.
