Here at Richard Magazine, we’ve dissected power ties and pantsuits, but there is one key style element of the election we haven’t discussed yet: Melania Trump fashion.
As a former model, the First Lady-elect is no stranger to the spotlight or the fashion industry. As a runway model, her looks often had lacy sleeves and adorning frills. After her marriage to Donald, she developed a simpler look of bold primary colors and neutrals. These Melania Trump outfits are what we saw on the campaign trail, minimalistic monochrome dresses expanded with the occasional pink top or pantsuit. Melania’s look also seemed to inspire Ivanka Trump and other campaign team members outfits. This adoption of Melania Trump fashion style may is likely to continue. First Lady fashion has inspired designs and looks throughout the United States since Jackie Kennedy. Since these slimming, simplistic dresses may soon be the next nation-wide example of politics in fashion, might as well get familiar.
BOLD BABY BLUE
Let’s start with this Victoria Beckham dress, which is one of my favorite Melania Trump outfits. It’s sexy and subtle with just enough personality to keep from being too “poltical.”
BLACK JUMPSUIT WITH LACY TOP
It’s a bit risqué for First Lady fashion, but Melania pulled off the look as a model walking the red carpet.
EMBELLISHED MINT GOWN
Breaking away from primary colors, Melania embraced a little bit of green for the 2015 WHCA. This flowing dress is the kind of outfit I hope to see her wearing as First Lady.
THE JEANS AND BUTTON-DOWN
The colors, blue and white, aren’t much of a change, but this look proves there is such as thing as Melania Trump street style. Just throw on some white jeans and a chambray shirt.
THE BLACK TRENCH COAT
Mrs. Trump’s street wear can also be somber. Ditch the pastels for navy jeans and a black trench coat if you’re chasing this Melania look.
THE PINK BLOUSE
This is really the Melania Trump housewife look. The blouse evokes Americana prairie wives. Never forget there are politics in fashion. It’s no coincidence this was Melania’s speech outfit.
THE PINK PANTSUIT
It seems pink was a constant theme in Melania’s campaign outfits. This bold magenta-pink imitates the color palettes of First Lady fashion dating back to Jackie.
THE BEIGE TRENCH COAT
I can imagine either Melanie or Ivanka Trump in this subtle, business-like coat. The ensemble here is well orchestrated. It might not be flashy, but it gets the job done.
THE WHITE RUFFLED SLEEVES
The convention dress was pretty iconic. It had all the elements of a typical Melania Trump dress with the added flair of puffy sleeves. This is a look that will be remembered for decades to come.
These are the dresses and suits poised to become First Lady fashion thus far. If this fashion boycott of Melania Trump continues, it’s unlikely we’ll see any drastic changes. So if you like politics invading your personal fashion, here you go! Now you know what to buy.
