Kaia Gerber and Chanel go together like peanut butter and jelly. Salt and pepper. Or sand and sun. After making her runway modeling debut at the designer brand’s Spring 2018 Paris Fashion Week ready-to-wear showcase, the 16-year-old rising star – and daughter of Cindy Crawford – has become a glamorous muse for the iconic label. Now, Kaia is even starring in her very first Chanel handbag campaign, as part of the line’s Spring/Summer 2018 collection.
“The Chanel handbag is an icon, a pure concentrate of dreams, of history, of luxury meticulously fashioned,” the brand shared in a press release while unveiling the modern-meets-heritage campaign.
The brand released a trio of black and white photo shoot images shot by Creative Director Karl Lagerfeld. In each, Kaia lounges on a suede couch as she wears chic spring styles, and displays the new handbag collection. According to Harper’s Bazaar, the star was “photographed in Mademoiselle Chanel’s apartment in Paris, surrounded by the late designer’s personal belongings,” including antique books and collectible treasures. This location is found above the brand’s flagship Parisian shop.
As part of the new handbag launch, you can expect to see more from the clear PVC bags that filled the brand’s buzzworthy runways. We only wish we could see their eye-catching colorful range in these snaps! Kaia shows off several varieties in this campaign, along with a glitter-dusted tweed carry-all and a preview of the latest monogrammed double C logo purses.
This Chanel handbag campaign is a huge milestone for Kaia, yet it’s clearly just the start of her incredible fashion career. It was recently announced that she has also been collaborating with Lagerfeld on her very own ready-to-wear capsule collection. We can’t wait to see what this design duo has in store for us!
