Two husband-and-wife duos have teamed up in order to conceptualize the Jil Sander Fall/Winter 2018 campaign. Designers Lucie and Luke Meier, who make up the label, joined forces with director Wim Wenders and his photographer wife Donata Wenders to create stunning visual imagery for the new season’s designs. The result is a three-minute film titled “Time Passing.”
“Jil Sander designed by Lucie and [her husband] Luke has a new, unique and modern mélange of classiness and avant-garde, easygoing and haute couture, subtle elegance and defined silhouettes in all their different elements of clothing. I especially like their choice of colors, cuts and fabrics,” Donata Wenders shared with WWD. “Their garments help you to live in an elegant, imaginative, natural and still somehow strict lifestyle. I tried to reflect this kind of fusion in my photographs, accompanying the latest commercial by Wim.”
The film follows a repetitive loop of scenes, with the changing of outfits to mark the passing of time. As part of this season’s offerings, you can expect to find cozy knits, classic wardrobe staples kicked up ten notches, and beautiful layers of multi-textured fabrics. All of the looks capture the brand’s minimalistic vibe, but with some added surprises.
All of those elements come to light in the creative campaign.
“The spirit of our new collaboration with Wim Wenders is that of expression,” Luke Meier shared with the publication. “The fact that you can change the feeling of your mood in an outward form through clothing, color, fabric. The curiosity of routine. The interest in something right in front of you that you may or may not notice. The interaction with people who are there beside you throughout your life. Comfort, but at the same time mystery. And finally, the immediate moment when so many questions are simultaneously answered.”
