Gucci Creates Capsule Collection Inspired by Elton John’s Memorable Stage Styles

Elton John‘s stage style throughout the decades of his career have been epic. From color-tinted sunglasses to sequined jackets and rainbow blazers, the musical icon has made a major impact on the world of fashion. Which is why it’s particularly cool that Gucci is honoring the artist’s specific style contributions with their latest designs.

The designer label has unveiled a special Gucci Elton John capsule collection, featuring designs inspired by the singer’s 1971 Levon/Goodbye album artwork. Artist Ignasi Monreal continued his ongoing collaboration with Gucci to create custom digital paintings that truly bring each of the limited edition designs to life.

“I’m a huge fan of the amazing work Alessandro Michele has been doing since he took the helm at Gucci. His bold mix of color, exuberance and eclecticism gave fashion a massive kick up the backside,” Elton John shared in an interview with the brand. “I love its celebration of individuality. That same spirit reminded me of the insane enthusiasm I had for fashion, particularly in the first 30 years of my career.”

“I spotted a few knowing winks in Alessandro’s collections to some of my past fashion moments,” the star added. When we finally met, I was bowled over by his kindness and his passion for craftsmanship. We became fast friends, as we are both voracious collectors and love mixing antiquity with the contemporary. I’ve kept an archive of my stage costumes from the very beginning of my career and thought it would be fun to open up my little treasure chest with Alessandro and his design team. They took it from there.”

Elton John loved seeing some of his biggest style moments turned into modern streetwear looks.

“When I finally saw the collection on the runway, I was blown away. It wasn’t a literal re-tread of my past, but a cleverly refashioned and reimagined vision that fit so well in the Gucci world of today,” the legend explained. “It really put a big smile on my face! Opening up my costume archive and seeing how Alessandro has reinterpreted key looks for today’s world has unearthed an exhilarating rush of emotions. I can’t believe how sartorially crazy I was, particularly in the 70s! With fashion back then, I was like a big kid in a sweet shop. I couldn’t get enough, and kept trying newer and crazier looks. I get the same rush of enthusiasm when I walk into a Gucci boutique today. It will definitely be a trip seeing the Gucci Elton John pieces when they start landing on boutique rails.”
