Gucci Is Debuting a Butterfly Highlighter for Holiday 2017

When you think of Gucci products, does the brand’s iconic butterfly design come to mind? It should, considering the custom creation first started showing up on the label’s garments in the 1960s. Now, the popular logo is getting a stylish new overhaul, because the Gucci butterfly highlighter is officially on its way to cosmetics counters. And it is a work of art.

This limited-edition “Sunstone Illuminator” – introduced for the upcoming holiday 2017 collection – marks the brand’s first entry into the trending market of highlighting makeup products. The product is anticipated to drop soon at Saks Fifth Avenue, with each luxe gold and black lacquered compact retailing for $53.

Campaign imagery for the launch was shot by Petra Collins on a still-life set by David White. The work captures the vintage art-inspired, whimsical feel of both the subject and the powder compact itself.

“Borrowing from the visual language of seventeenth-century Flemish still-life paintings, the campaign for the #GucciBeauty Holiday 2017 collection was shot by @petrafcollins and art directed by @christophersimmonds,” Gucci shared on Instagram. “A butterfly, a whimsical and colorful symbol, debuts on a new limited-edition Illuminating Powder, part of the #GucciBeauty Holiday 2017 collection. The new limited-edition Illuminating Powder is laser-etched with a butterfly. Inspired by the multiple reflections when the light hits a butterfly’s wings, the formula gives a highlighted and radiant finish.”

It is said that the Gucci beauty team was also inspired by the butterfly’s patterned wing for the design of the product itself. The variations in the highlighter’s peach, pink, and golden tones change depending on how the light hits it. That means your face will get a truly custom glow as it reflects back light from your cheekbones.
