When you’re a fashion girl, February means the start of New York Fashion Week. But did you know that this time of year is also American Heart Month? Each season, the American Heart Association puts extra focus on women’s cardiovascular disease awareness and health initiatives. But they also combine our love for fun fashion moments at NYFW by hosting the star-studded Go Red for Women’s Red Dress Collection runway presentation with Macy’s!
This year’s show was hosted by actress Marisa Tomei, and 17 celebrities walked the runway in gorgeous red gowns to support the cause. The talented list included actress Adrienne Houghton, singer CeCe Winans, actress Elisabeth Röhm, TV meteorologist Ginger Zee, YouTube personality Grace Helbig, actress Kate Walsh, supermodel Kathy Ireland, Broadway star Lea Salonga, actress and host Liz Hernandez, actress Lynn Whitfield, actress Marion Ross, model Maye Musk, actress Melissa Joan Hart, supermodel Niki Taylor, reality TV star Rachel Lindsay, actress Tatyana Ali, and host Zuri Hall. Two heart disease survivors – including a Macy’s employee and Go Red for Women spokesperson – also brought their empowering stories to the runway.
The Go Red For Women’s Red Dress Collection show featured three gorgeous looks from designers in the not-for-profit, independently-run Macy’s Fashion Incubator Programs: Tanesha Prunty from the Chicago Fashion Incubator, Lia Larrea from Fashion Incubator San Francisco and Dur Doux from the D.C. Fashion Incubator.
The superstar performances at the event also kept the festive and exciting show going. Lea Salonga started off the show with a moving cover of One Republic’s hit song “I Lived,” and En Vogue delighted guests with performances of “My Lovin (You’re Never Gonna Get It)”, “Hold On” and “Free Your Mind.” Plus, DJ, model, and fashion influencer Harley Viera-Newton kept the beats grooving all evening. It was really an incredible show all around.
