To celebrate 100 years since Nelson Mandela‘s birth date, this year’s Global Citizen festival, presented by Major Partner The Motsepe Foundation, will be honoring the leader’s life and legacy. 100,000 citizens who’ve worked on Global Citizen’s social advocacy platform will be invited to join one of the hottest music and culture festivals on the planet, happening at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg, South Africa on December 2, 2018.
Performers like Beyoncé, JAY-Z, Cassper Nyovest, D’banj, Ed Sheeran, Eddie Vedder, Femi Kuti, Pharrell Williams and Chris Martin, Sho Madjozi, Tiwa Savage, Usher, Wizkid, and many more are all scheduled to take the stage in support of this event, Mandela 100.
Public figures like Oprah Winfrey, Naomi Campbell, Sir Bob Geldof, Tyler Perry, Forest Whitaker, Gayle King, and more will also be speaking at the event.
“Nelson Mandela’s life story is a testament to the power of the human spirit and one man’s ability to change the world by standing up for what he believed in,” Oprah shared in a statement. “It is one of the great honors of my life to have spent so much time with him, and I look forward to celebrating his courageous life.”
Tickets are always free, but participants must earn them by signing up at GlobalCitizen.org.za and earning credits through outreach activities starting on August 21, 2018.
