Think back to your earliest fashion memory from your childhood: does it have anything to do with dressing your dolls up in their most festive and over-the-top clothing? We thought so! After all, a lot of us start figuring out our love for fashion when we play stylist with our toys. Adding an extra layer to the nostalgia, the clothes you dressed up your Barbie dolls in likely corresponds the decade you were growing up. Which is why we particularly love how the Christian Siriano Resort 2019 collection references dramatic doll-like formalwear over the span of several amazing fashion eras.
“It’s like a pink Barbie picnic!” designer Christian Siriano excitedly described about his latest collection to WWD. “I was just going for it. I was looking at vintage Sixties and Seventies references from old Barbie pieces. But next season I will never make anything in pink.”
We are seriously digging the pink though! It’s not the only standout shade featured in the gorgeous new season line: iridescent blues, pale yellows, and lovely teals make up a significant portion of the looks, in addition to pretty prints and sophisticated black garments.
If you are also seeing a majorly trendy 90s-inspired theme emerging from this colorful lookbook – like bold plaids and coordinating sets – it must be noted that Siriano’s real-life friends, celebrity clients, and experiences are coloring his design sensibilities for the season.
“I feel like, because I hang out so much with my good friend Alicia Silverstone [of Clueless], there is a Cher element here somewhere,” he explained. We’re certainly not complaining about that iconic movie style reference – or how Siriano somehow managed to blend all of our favorite throwback moments into this new launch.
