Can vintage school jackets be modern and trendy in 2018? Not only can they, but leather sleeves adorned with patches, embroidery, and even a shout-out to your hometown are all the rage. Just ask the designers of Chicago Playground. The brand just showed their Fall 2018 ready-to-wear collection during New York Fashion Week‘s Style Fashion Week event at Cipriani in Manhattan, and these features get an extra personal touch.
Menswear and womenswear looks were shown together at this event, and street style ensembles reigned supreme. The collection featured expertly decorated varsity jackets, collegiate-inspired sweatshirts, bomber jackets, trendy ripped denim, and slogan tees. One standout piece is Chicago Playground’s “The Story of OJ” bomber, which is inspired by the message of Jay Z‘s hit song.
This black-owned business proudly and boldly supports many aspects of black culture, so this season the designers paid tribute by adding many stylish references to African nations and historically black universities to its designs this season.
“We as artists are here to change the narrative of how and what things should be according to society,” artist and designer Rodnell Harris shared. This label is certainly making an impact!
