When you think of your homeland, what kind of visuals come to mind? Do you dream of the graphic shapes in your city’s architecture, or the colors that make up the nightly sunset over a nearby lake? Well, the new Chanel Spring 2018 beauty collection was actually visually inspired by Naples, Italy – the hometown of the brand’s Global Creative Makeup and Color Designer Lucia Pica. It’s called Neapolis: New City, and it uses a vibrant and earthy color palette to tell the stories of the season.
“Bursting with energy and reflecting, the ever-changing landscape of Naples, the collection features vibrant shades made for play,” Chanel shared on the brand’s website. “Sacred and sensual, ancient and modern, immortal and spectacular, historical and alive, [the city] inspires the Spring-Summer 2018 Collection.”
As part of this range, you will find many new limited edition color cosmetics that coordinate with the theme. That includes the stunning Les 9 Ombres Multi-Effects Eyeshadow palette, Long-Lasting Waterproof Eyeliners, 24 radiant and intense Rouge Allure lipsticks, a full collection of new Rouge Coco Glosses, and four La Vernis nail polishes that play off the Neapolis New City ad colors.
There are also three gorgeous shades of the brand’s innovative new Poudre À Lèvres, Chanel’s lip balm and powder lipstick duos. This unconventional product was “inspired by painting techniques used for Pompeiian frescoes,” Chanel claims. “Layer the pigmented powder—in three shades—over the balm for desired intensity, or apply over your favorite lipstick for a custom matte or even an ombre lip look.”
