There are few things in the fashion world better than a high-fashion Chanel collaboration, but this latest partnership just may be the best one yet. The label’s creative director Karl Lagerfeld will officially be creating a special collection for Colette – and he is tapping Pharrell Williams to help out.
Chanel will reportedly be taking up residency on the first store of the Colette concept store in Paris from October 30 to November 25, transforming the space into a pop-up store version of their recent Greek-inspired Cruise collection runway show.
While Karl is designing some special limited-edition t-shirts for the brand, Pharrell will be lending his sneaker design sensibilities to a custom Adidas Hu NMD for Chanel x Colette.
The official campaign imagery for the shoe design has yet to be revealed, but it appears that a first-look at the sneaker collab has already been leaked on social media. This Instagram image shows a black and white shoe with the Chanel logo emblazoned across the top – a must-have for sneaker collectors everywhere.
Though Pharrell has been involved with Chanel’s past fashion campaigns – and was even the first man to appear in a Chanel handbag campaign – this is specifically the first time he is designing for the brand. It is a perfectly timed debut, considering the Colette brand’s incredible legacy.
As you may have heard, the iconic French boutique will be closing its doors for good this December 20 as founder Colette Roussaux is retiring. But Colette is not going out without an elaborate going away party: several other designers, like Thom Browne and Anya Hindmarch have created commemorative products that celebrate the store’s 1997-2017 opening dates.
As if this all could possibly get any cooler, Chanel also revealed the brand’s plans to donate profits from this upcoming Colette pop-up experience to benefit charities through the Chanel Foundation.
