For the first time ever, Karl Lagerfeld debuted Chanel’s latest designs in his hometown of Hamburg, Germany. The Chanel Métiers d’Art 2018 show was hosted at the Elbphilharmonie glass concert hall, which is located on the Elbe River. The waterside destination was the perfect venue to showcase the latest detail-rich collection, which was inspired by fishermen and the sea.
Each Métiers d’Art collection shines the spotlight on the intricate crafts work artisans bring to fashion designs. You’ll notice the fine jewels, beautiful buttons, delicate embroidery, fine knit work, and more in each piece.
Though Lagerfeld has been a staple in the Paris fashion scene for his whole career, and has no set “notion of home,” he explained that the choice in venue was intentional. “It’s a very quiet city, it’s not a place to show your wealth. It’s why I wanted the collection to remain discreet,” he said of Hamburg.
Models like Kaia Gerber, Soo Joo Park, and more showed off the collection’s elegant tweeds, pageboy caps, and pearl-adorned accessories as musicians from the Ensemble Resonanz filled the room with musical magic.
Celebrity guests and brand muses like Kristen Stewart, Phoebe Tonkin, Lily-Rose Depp, and more all took in the beautiful Chanel Hamburg show straight from venue, and couldn’t help but rave about the new showings. “As soon as the orchestra started to play, I got quite emotional,” Phoebe shared. “It was a very romantic, dramatic experience.”
“I loved all the really beautiful delicate dresses with the sheer fabric,” Lily-Rose raved. “I honestly could see myself wearing the whole collection, and I would be really happy.” We would love to see her wearing some of these sensational pieces!
