The Carolina Herrera Resort 2019 collection marks the first line designer Wes Gordon is showing since joining the company about a year ago. Gordon was announced as the label’s Creative Director in February 2018, when Carolina Herrera herself stepped into an ambassador role within her brand. Now, he is proving that he’s taking the brand in an exciting new direction, while honoring the history and personality at the core of the company.
First up, a California-inspired Resort line unveiled in a wonderful lookbook that is full of bright and cheery garments with an added touch of whimsy.
“Welcome to Palm Springs,” Gordon shared about the collection, via WWD. “This is where the golf course meets the desert, where midcentury architecture meets kitsch wallpaper, where Slim Aarons meets Coachella, a bright, sunshiny oasis. It’s a little quirky and glamorous at the same time.”
We can totally see the Palm Springs vision in this creative lookbook, which is effortless and breezy and showcasing the most delightful pops of mood-boosting colors. The palm trees and vibrant orange fruits certainly kick up the vibes of the collection.
Gordon described Carolina Herrera as “witty and funny and laughing a lot, and the life of the party,” and the brand she created as “the opposite of norm-core. It’s beautiful and a little flamboyant at times, and you just smile.” It is because he knows the iconic designer and her aesthetic so well that he is bringing joy to the forefront of this collection.
“Not everyone knows this, but Mrs. Herrera is a funny, witty woman who loves a good time,” Gordon added while talking to Vogue. “This collection is for kindred spirits.”
