Burberry has collaborated on a limited-edition menswear capsule collection with Russian streetwear designer Gosha Rubchinskiy – and it’s just about ready to drop. After much teasing, a lookbook of images from the collection have officially been revealed, along with the January 6, 2018 online and international in-store launch date.
“Inspired by youth culture and the legacy of British football in Russia, the capsule is a remix of the past and present, featuring our iconic Vintage check,” Burberry shared on the brand’s website. “Captured here by Gosha, this portfolio of images first appeared as part of ‘Here We Are’, the exhibition celebrating the Burberry September 2017 runway show.”
This collaboration – inspired by the Russian city of St. Petersburg – embodies a wonderful coming-together of seemingly contrasting style aesthetics. Gosha’s street style savvy and Burberry’s iconic and classic prints blend with one another for truly one-of-a-kind pieces.
Gosha Rubchinskiy has previously spoken about how much Burberry’s heritage brand has inspired him.
“Burberry has always symbolized the epitome of classic British style to me,” Rubchinskiy said in a press release. “Their timeless pieces are the perfect balance to our modern streetwear creating a great mix.”
“[St. Petersburg] was the first city in Russia to have football, in the 19th century. It was introduced by English people, so I thought let’s do something with an English brand,” he has also told the Financial Times. “I thought, which brand is most iconic. It’s Burberry. It suits many things in the collection, like underground electronic music, like football, England, Russia, club culture.”
