Richard Magazine: What can you tell us about your newest single “Maybe I” and what do you want your listeners to take away from it?
Bianca Muñiz: My newest single, “Maybe I” is a collaboration with Alex Siesse. He’s an incredible musician, singer, songwriter, and producer that I met in college at The New School. This was my first real “co-writing” experience and it was so much fun! It was nice to go about creating music in a way that’s different from how I usually do.
The song itself is about treating a love for granted. It’s about thinking you have the upper hand in the relationship until the other person decides it’s enough and you’re left wandering alone and realizing, too late, how much that person meant to you after taking them for granted.
Richard Magazine: What is your first memory that sparked your interest in music?
Bianca Muñiz: One of my first memories is being in the car with my parents. I kept asking them to play the same song over and over again, and whenever they would try to sing with me, I would tell them to be quiet because it was “my turn.”
Richard Magazine: How would you describe your music, and who are some of your influences?
Bianca Muñiz: I made my own genre of music. I call it avant-pop, which is a blend of multiple genres. Some of my influences are Radiohead, Little Dragon, Becca Stevens, Emily King, and Lianne La Havas.
Richard Magazine: Can you tell us about your onstage style, and how you pick out looks for performances?
Bianca Muñiz: My onstage style varies a lot. The main key with every outfit I choose, both on and offstage, is comfort. I don’t care how much I like an article of clothing, if it’s not comfortable I won’t wear it.
Richard Magazine: If you could trade wardrobes with anyone out there, who would you pick?
Bianca Muñiz: Kelsey Lu’s wardrobe is amazing, I’d love to trade wardrobes with her!!
Richard Magazine: What’s your earliest makeup memory (i.e., playing dress-up, testing out makeup, etc.)?
Bianca Muñiz: I think the first time I wore makeup was in the middle school musical. My mom did it for me. I honestly don’t know much about makeup, I just buy whatever my sister tells me to!
Richard Magazine: What would you say is the most worn-garment or accessory in your wardrobe?
Bianca Muñiz: The most worn accessory in my wardrobe are my gold Bagatiba hoop earrings. I’ve worn them every single day since I bought them after shaving my head.
Richard Magazine: Where are some places you find inspiration?
Bianca Muñiz: I find inspiration everywhere, but my favorite places are always by some sort of body of water – quiet and peaceful.
Richard Magazine: Who would you love to collaborate with?
Bianca Muñiz: I would absolutely love to collaborate with Radiohead or Little Dragon.
Richard Magazine: What are some of your favorite songs at the moment and why?
Bianca Muñiz: Some of my favorite songs of the moment are “Rah’n Tah’n Kregg” by Great Time, “Shades Of Blue” by Kelsey Lu, and “Florasia” by Taylor McFerrin. These songs are currently some of my favorites because they stir something inside off me. They each make me feel something deeply in some way.
Richard Magazine: What do you think is missing in the music industry right now, and how do you hope to make it better?
Bianca Muñiz: What do I think is missing in the music industry hmmm…. Well I think a lot of really amazing music is being made, but not enough of these incredible artists are being heard. On my Instagram I try to share music that I love, not only the “mainstream” artists.
