Do you love it when your accessories tell a poignant and powerful story? Then you’ll adore this new season of luxurious, Indian-inspired bag designs. Nolcha Shows presented the Aranyani Spring 2019 runway production and press preview at this September season of New York Fashion Week. The runway show offered a chance for audiences to view the high-fashion look of these intricately crafted handbags, backpacks, clutches, and more.
The Richard Magazine team had the chance to catch up with brand founder Haresh Mirpuri in Manhattan at the Nolcha Shows Accessories Preview after the thrilling runway show, and we learned all about the beautiful inspiration behind the Aranyani Spring 2019 designs. Plus, we were able to view the painted bag motifs up close, where they are best appreciated.
“This is all hand-painted, and handcrafted in India. Every collection of ours has a story,” Mirpuri told us exclusively. “This time, it’s called ‘Finding Your Roots.’ It’s about a princess who was taken away from her place due to historic circumstances. She died very young, and she wished she could go back to earth. So we put her back. We started this princess story [with our last collection] in February.”
“This collection looks at this region through the longing eyes of Princess Victoria Gowramma who was practically snatched from her roots at birth due to her father’s unfortunate circumstances,” the brand elaborated. She lost her connect with her land and died unhappily on 30th March 1864. The story draws inspiration from the land of the Kodavas, Coorg. To the western world, Coorg is often described as the Scotland of India. In this collection, we look at Coorg from the perspective of how Princess Victoria Gowramma would have looked at this region of her ancestors.”
“This collection celebrates the flora and fauna of India,” Mirpuri added in our interview. “‘Finding Your Roots’ pushes us all to stay grounded and attuned to the environment we live in. That’s the beauty of nature.”
Aranyani has recently started selling at Flying Solo in New York, boutiques, and throughout Dehli. The brand has plans to start online retail sales, mainly to the United States, in the October timeframe. We look forward to more artisan handbag aficionados having the chance to shop these beautiful creations!
