Actor, musical artist, and producer Donald Glover has teamed up with sportswear brand Adidas Originals to drop some of the hottest, must-have shoe designs of the season. The new Adidas Donald Glover Presents collection consists of three sneaker styles, including the Continental 80, Lacombe, and Nizza silhouettes. Each of the designs has a worn, lived-in feel, with imperfect frayed detailing and a comfortable, relaxed fit. All of the styles will be available globally starting on April 26.
Glover wanted to tell a poignant story through these designs, which is why each pair of shoes is filled with these little touches of character. In corresponding campaign films, written by Jamal Olori of Royalty with Sam Jay, the shoes represent a story of “defiance, subversion, and creative expression.” The roughed-up shoes aren’t “dirty,” – they reflect the wearer’s journey and personal experiences.
“Rich is a concept,” the 35-year-old artist said in a campaign press release. “With this project, I wanted to encourage people to think about how their stories can be told on their feet. Value isn’t quantified by what you wear, rather the experiences from them. And you make the decision on what works for you, you live through your own lens. The partnership for me is about being able to exemplify what doing your own thing truly looks and feels like.”
In a statement, Adidas Originals said it is proud to bring Glover’s ideas to life through this collaboration.
“Our partnerships are built on a foundation of creating moments of inspiration that we could not achieve alone,” said Chris Law, the senior design director of Adidas Originals. “As a visionary, we admire Glover’s capability to surpass ‘genres’ and uniquely tell a story. From a design perspective, we drove the aesthetic of this collection based on adidas’ rich history in classic sneakers and Glover’s philosophy of understated points of interest and appreciation for how shoes evolve with wear, expressing more personality over time. Between Glover’s artistic vision and our expertise, we will continue to evolve and look forward to where that takes us.”
