When designer brands put together their Resort or Cruise season collections, they are imagining the gorgeous ensembles that we dream of wearing for our international getaways. Those whimsical looks we put together for our weekend escapes, or the contents of those over-studded luggage bags we whisk off to our seaside adventures. Well, the 3.1 Phillip Lim Resort 2019 collection is so caught up in the storytelling, that the new line is actually inspired by the idea of “the accidental tourist.”
“She knows where she comes from but you don’t,” designer Phillip Lim explained to WWD of his resort (or Pre-Spring 2019) collection muse. Judging by the collection’s newly-launched lookbook, you can put together a whole backstory to go along with the mysterious traveler. Does she pick pieces up along her journey as souvenirs from her trips – or did this fabulous fashionista just master the art of layering to avoid those excess baggage fees? Is she taking in the city streets, or heading for a sunny beach? Or all of the above?
“The lavish nomad with a 70’s spirit embodies an effortless cool for Pre-Spring 2019… Inspired by travel, culture and curiosity,” the designer shared on Instagram, giving us a further sense of the inspiration.
The brand’s latest lookbook definitely gives us major 1970s vibes, with wide-leg pants, a vibrant mix of knits, and layered floppy hats, striped scarves, and long-line maxi dresses. Bright yellow hues, daring shades of red, and neutral sand tones stand out as some of our easy favorites. Styled all together, these looks are all about playful mix-and-matching. But as separates, you can find some really captivating wardrobe items you will want to pack for your next vacation, and beyond.
